MCC 2014-2015 Season Newsletter December 2014
Season Greetings curlers, Winter League is in full swing now, so if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask one of the board members curling when you do. Board members are:
Barry Bollenbacher, Dave Strobel, Bob Keane, Kris Lee, Duncan Lutes, Sam Brown, Elaine Sutherland, Charlene Young, Meredith Stewart, Tom Schultz, Lee Banville, and Peter Hicks.
We are going to be having a Holliday pot luck during league night December 20th. If you can bring holiday treats, crockpots with finger food etc, we will begin at 9pm and end at midnight during regular scheduled curling. Those not curling on the 20th, please come too and meet folks you have not had a chance to in the past.
Some members’ cannot always make every game so we have a substitute policy that if you are a member, you can sub for free for any team any night of curling. If you know you are going to be short on a given night, just ask another member if they want to sub. Subs will not be allowed however during playoffs at the end of the season. If you want someone to sub that is not a member, it is a $20. fee per game, max of 3 times, over that the person needs to join the club.
Also several learn to curls are scattered throughout league play so if you have friends that want to try curling for $10.00 each LTC, let them know about that opportunity. December 20th at 9pm is the first Learn to Curl during league which is planned for sheet A.
A reminder, for the teams that curl at 9pm, we need 4-6 folks to show up at 8pm to help prepare the ice etc. League night timing goes something like this:
8pm Start preparing Ice
8:15 Hacks and pebbling, set out scoreboards
8:40 Rolling rocks over the pebbling
8:45 Transfer stones to each hack
9:00 Start Curling
10:20 If you haven’t started the sixth end, the fifth end will be the last end
10:30 Finish Curling last end, (this could mean a slight delay for the next teams curling)
10:30 Next flight meets at hacks and prepares to curl when flight one is finished
11:50 If you haven’t started the sixth end, the fifth end will be the last end
12:00 Finish Curling the last end
12:00+ Remove hacks and stow stones, brooms, hacks (do not use brooms to release hacks, they break)
The hour from 8 to 9 goes toward your league service, and you can document that in the blue binder hanging in the equipment shed door. Please mark down time served, and have a board member initial it, and when you accumulate 4 hours send a note to Duncan Lutes for your $25.00 rebate. email@example.com
IRS Exemption from Federal income tax granted. Based on our application the IRS has determined that we are exempt from Federal income tax as a non-profit public charity under section 501 (c) (3). This is fantastic news and a big deal for the Missoula Curling Club as it will allow us to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, or gifts, such as team sponsorships by a business, donations to the club to help achieve club objectives, and will help facilitate or assist us in fund raising activities. A donation or sponsorship form is required to be given to the potential donor, and one such form is now available. If you have such a donor, please contact Bob Keane, MCC Treasurer, to obtain the proper paperwork for the donation, sponsorship or gift. He can be reached through the club email address at firstname.lastname@example.org Or Bob Keane at email@example.com
