Survey Shows Support for Dedicated Ice, Improved Times

Survey Shows Support for Dedicated Ice, Improved Times

The Missoula Curling Club has been working with the city, county, Glacier Ice Rink and others to explore the idea of building more ice facilities in the region, including a possible dedicated curling facility in Missoula.

Although we continue to accept responses to the survey, we thought we would share some of the initial responses from the nearly 200 current and former members as well as those interested in curling but who have not tried it.

First, the non-members. We found that most did not cite the cost of curling, but rather the times of the night we play and the general length and timing of the season.

Additionally, many of these people indicated they would be more inclined to join the league and perhaps play in multiple leagues if there were better times or a curling rink.

We also asked former members what it was that made them stop playing and, again, we heard more about timing, with most citing the game times and season schedule as the reason they left.

The Curly Fries hoist (well, hold) the Spring League trophy this May.

It’s been a heck of a season for the Curly Fries.

The Rec league team first spent the winter dominating many of the teams they faced and then ran the board in the playoffs, scoring their first championship.

Then they joined the Spring League and continued to bring it, winning critical games (including a last-shot victory against last year’s champs — my team, meh) on their way to that championship.

Congrats to the entire gang and rumor has it they will be jumping up to the competitive league come November.
