High School and Youth Curling

Central to the Missoula Curling Club's mission is introducing a new generation of Missoulians to the sport and giving them a real chance to get on the ice and try it out.

Over the years, the club has hosted multi-day teaching sessions with students from Sentinel, Big Sky and Hellgate High Schools, reaching more than 1,400 young curlers. Hellgate has fielded four competitive league teams through the club. More recently, Sussex School has joined the roster of Missoula schools we partner with, with students receiving hands-on introductions to delivery, sweeping and the rules of the game during club ice time.

High School Health Enhancement Curling

Each winter the club partners with Missoula high schools to bring curling into PE class. We host approximately 1,000 high school students across roughly 14 one-hour sessions during February and March. Club volunteers lead each session, walking students through the basics and getting them throwing rocks within minutes. No experience is required — from students or volunteers.

If you are a club member interested in helping with PE sessions, keep an eye on your email each fall for volunteer requests. It is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to the sport.

Large-Scale Learn to Curl Events

In Olympic years, the club partners with Glacier Ice Rink to host larger public learn-to-curl events open to the broader community. These are structured as 30-minute group sessions with 8 curlers per sheet and two instructors per sheet — a format designed to get participants throwing stones and playing a game quickly, regardless of age or experience.

Youth Fund

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Missoula Curling Club has established a dedicated fund to support youth curling in Missoula. Contributions to this fund help the club cover the cost of ice time for school learn-to-curls and help young people join the club and pay league dues.

If you would like to support youth curling, please consider donating to the youth fund. If you represent a business interested in sponsoring a youth team, contact us at [email protected].
